Manufacturing was hit hard by the economic downturn as coverage continues on layoffs and plant shutdowns. In a report released by the Institute for Supply Management there are signs that recovery is near. The manufacturing index shows the segment contracted less than expected in June. Resources are available to assist manufacturers to come out of the recession stronger and smarter.
MANTEC is a private non-profit, independent, resource center for manufacturers. The mission is to assist the manufacturers in South Central Pennsylvania to continuously and strategically strengthen their business. For more than two decades MANTEC has worked with manufacturers to respond to challenges in their businesses to achieve greater profitability.
In recent months MANTEC
launched new service offerings to further their mission in assisting manufacturers. MANTEC has historically impacted manufacturers in a variety of capacities-
process improvement,
workforce development and
top line growth. A service offering 21 years in the making MANTEC launched the
Business Transformation Process. While the process is new, it draws upon all the good work MANTEC has been known for throughout their 21-year history. It ensures that the highest priority items, the ones with the greatest potential impact, are tackled first. It incorporates all the traditional services and coordinates them in a much more strategic way. The process develops the vision for their clients and creates a gap analysis between the current state and the envisioned future state.
Human Resources is constantly changing as new government policies are enacted and enforced. Not having qualified HR staff can be costly to any organization.
HR for Hire is part of the many workforce development offerings at MANTEC. The service is very adaptable to individual company needs. The goal is to give manufacturing leadership peace of mind when it comes to employee disputes, critical company policies or employee law compliance issues. MANTEC’s certified HR professionals serve as a virtual on-staff HR professional for clients. Another new workforce development service is the
Cultural Assessment. This assessment defines cultural strengths and weaknesses and identifies areas for improvement to achieve a healthy culture.
Finally, MANTEC realizes that many small to medium sized manufacturers are family owned businesses. Many have not started to think about their
succession plan. The business transition assessment reviews the organizational goals, experiences and skills and determines a preferred exit strategy. Proper succession planning takes years to prepare and finalize. The assessment lays out the blueprint detailing the path to a successful transition.
Resources are available, knowing where to turn is critical to success. In addition to MANTEC’s own internal services, they are a link to many other state resources to keep Pennsylvania’s manufacturers in business.
