Manufacturing is alive and well in Pennsylvania.  Senator Bob Casey visited American Products, Inc. (API) located in York to hear about the challenges they face and how assistance through MANTEC allowed them to remain competitive.

API qualified for a federal Trade Adjustment Assistance grant, which strives to upgrade a company’s global competitiveness.  MANTEC educated API on the grant opportunity.  API used the funds on two different aspects of their business: LEAN and an ERP system.  In the 18 months following LEAN implementation, on time deliveries increased from 60% to 90%.  API also increased sales and jobs in the same time period, adding 15% in full-time positions.  The ERP system is slated for a live date in August 2011 and will fully integrate the business including sales, inventory, production and accounting.

Manufacturing remains a critical economic driver for Pennsylvania.  A recent study (www.pamade.org) found that manufacturing is the #1 sector contributing to the gross state product.  Additionally, manufacturing is the fourth highest industry sector to create and retain jobs.  In South Central Pennsylvania, manufacturing is the #1 employer.

American Products, Inc. specializes in printed circuit board design and manufacturing as well as cable and harness assembly, panel and chassis assembly.  The business was founded in 1983.
