The MANTEC Manufacturing Awards were designed to recognize manufacturers excelling in the Next Generation Manufacturing Strategies.  A collaborative study across the United States concluded that leaders who adopt and integrate these strategies into their business plans will have a significant advantage over their competition. Nominations were open to all manufacturers, MANTEC partners and consultants to self nominate or submit a company for consideration.  14 companies were nominated in five of the six categories.  MANTEC recognized six organizations for their outstanding work.

Excellence in Continuous Improvement- McClarin Plastics based in Hanover
At McClarin Plastics a continuous improvement strategy has been in place since 1983. The focused LEAN journey began in 2001, ISO registration was completed in 2006 and has been maintained since then without interruption. Set up reduction training, along with 5S and Kaizen reduced the thermoforming machine set up times by 62%. In addition to time reduction improved set up quality helped support the reduction of internal manufacturing scrap by over 3%.    Reduction in inventory and waste allowed for conversion of a 30,000 sq./ft. warehouse into productive manufacturing space opening capacity for another 20% increase in sales in 2008 and continuing as a source for 25% of our revenue capacity today.   

Excellence in International Trade- PoolPak Technologies Corporation based in York
Pool Pak International has become successful in many foreign markets. They have used the State’s offices to identify a representative in Korea, Taiwan, the Eastern Mediterranean region, and the Middle East region.  Pool Pak also has been able to secure deals in China, Chile and other countries because of their management commitment to international trade expansion, coupled with their effective use of available resources.

Excellence in Sustainability- SPX Cooling Technologies based in York
The SPX York Facility has earned the Green Supplier Network Certification.  SPX generated recycling revenue and reduced waste stream by 90%.  They installed high efficiency lighting in the facility and locked in Electric KW rates at 7 year low before rate caps were removed.  LEAN techniques in the plant allowed for reducing PVC Roll scrap lost during processing by 40%, increasing plant production efficiency from 85% to 130% and increasing Run Equipment Efficiency from 75% to 92%.     Because of SPX York improvements and the impact to our business SPX Corporate has now made Lean & Green their # 1 Environmental Sustainability goal.


Excellence in Technology Acceleration- SE Moudling based in Mt. Holly Springs
Over the last few years, this company has assisted many companies develop and commercialize their own ideas.  Additionally, SE Moulding has developed its own proprietary product and introduced it to the market with the assistance of MANTEC.  SE Moulding demonstrates how even a small contract manufacturer can develop a product line that has direct appeal to consumers and provides a solid base for growth in a world of commodities.

Excellence in Workforce- Hauck Manufacturing  and I. Auman Machine Company based in Lebanon
Hauck Manufacturing invested heavily in training and development at all levels of the organization in a challenging economic environment.  A new performance management program and implementation of formal performance reviews were put in place after several years of inconsistent application.  All supervisors and managers were trained on the importance of performance Additional investment in Customer Service training took place for several technicians.

I. Auman Machine Company increased head count in Operations and invested heavily in training them on Auman processes and procedures. Auman Leadership has worked hard to create a learning culture and have defined learning objectives for every union employee and most others throughout the organization.  The organization is committed to innovation and growth through employee development and challenge each employee to achieve training goals.
